USA YOUNG EAGLES STRIKE IT RICH IN UNDER 25/UNDER 21 WORLD LONG RANGE RIFLE CHAMPIONSHIPS Niantic, CT—September 10, 2007 – The USA Young Eagles Rifle teams took the world by storm at the 2007 Under 25/Under 21 World Long Range Rifle Championships on August 26, 2007 held at the Connaught ranges in Nepean, Ontario, Canada. The USA Under 21 Team are the new world champions; and in a hard fought battle that lasted until the last shot was fired, the Under 25 team finished only two points behind Great Britain for the silver medal. The Under 25/Under 21 World Long Range Championships are held once every four years and fired at distances of 300 and 600 yards and 800 and 900 meters. The entire competition is fired in one day. The USA Young Eagles Rifle team is comprised of 24 young men and women that hail from coast to coast – including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin. Since its inception, the team has brought home gold or silver in every competition. The USA Young Eagles arrived in at the Connaught Ranges on Wednesday August 15. The days prior to the World Championships were spent competing in the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association’s Fullbore Rifle Championships. During the championships both the Under 21 and Under 25 teams traded first and second finishes with Great Britain quickly establishing a friendly rivalry while setting the stage for a suspense filled World Championship match. Sunday August 26, 2007 was a beautiful cloudless day with perfect shooting conditions. The Under 21 team quickly established a lead over both the Great Britain (GB) and Canadian teams while the Under 25 team was down by four points heading into the lunch break. After lunch, the teams returned to the range where the U.S. Under 21 team expanded their lead while the Under 25 team capitalized on the Brit’s struggles at 800 meters and took the lead by three points. The teams moved back to 900 meters and all of the teams struggled to stay in the center. The USA Under 21 team maintained the lead for the title of World Champions. The USA Under 25 team was the last team on the line and all other nations were standing behind the USA firing point watching the scores go up on the chalk board. There was a collective sigh when the USA dropped the point that put the GB team into first place. Not a soul present remembered a time when the members of so many competing nations joined together in one location to watch the final shots of any country. “The members of our teams competed in very difficult matches and produced results that we can all be proud of,” said J.J. Jackson, manager, USA Young Eagles. “We could not have asked for a better performance from the youth of our country.” In the end, the USA Under 21 team finished in first place with a score of 1157-83V, Canada in second with 1135-80V and the Athelings of Great Britain in third with 1030-62V. The Under 25 teams finished with GB in first place with a score of 1558-150V, the USA in second with 1556-147V, Australia in third with 1542-123V. Contacts: J.J.
