![]() USA Young Eagles 11 Liberty Way Niantic, CT 06357 603-721-6481 March 2007 Dear Friends, I write to you today asking for your help. In August of 2007, the United States Under 21 and Under 25 Rifle Teams will be competing in the World Championships in Ottawa, Canada. The team consists of 20 young men and women who will be competing for the title of World Champion. The making of Champions! In 1999, the World Individual Long Range Championships were held at Bloemfontein in South Africa. Ian Cheeseman, a competitor, noticed that the United States was the only major country in attendance without an Under 21 or Under 25 Team. During the next year, Ian with the assistance of Nancy Tompkins-Gallagher founded, organized, and selected the inaugural Young Eagles team. In July 2000, the Young Eagles traveled to Bisley Camp in England to compete in the Millennium Matches and the Under 21 and 25 Millennium World Championships. In their first test, the Young Eagles competed against ten other international junior teams and won the Under 21 World Championship Title and brought the Gold home. The U.S. National Championships held in Camp Perry, OH in 2002, were used for the selection of the Young Eagles that would attend the 2003 Imperial Meeting and defend their title in the Under 21 and 25 World Championships. The 2003 Young Eagles were composed of eighteen young men and women from across the U.S. Both the Under 21 and Under 25 Teams won Silver medals in the World Championships. The Under 21 Team brought home the Gold in the Under 25 Team Match during the Imperial Meeting, becoming the only American team to win Gold in Bisley in 2003. The total cost of travel and match fees for the team in 2007 will be no less than $95,000. Team members supply all their own equipment, rifles and ammunition and raise some of the money themselves. Your support is more important now than ever before. With your support, we will be able to concentrate on defending our world champion title. The team will have a “Meet the Team” brochure that will be distributed to each member of the competing teams at the World Championships, as well as both the U.S. and Canadian National Championships. In addition to shooter profiles, the brochure will have articles and space for sponsors to wish the team well. Cost for exposure in global publications can easily run into the tens of thousands of dollars. What is global advertising worth to you? By supporting our team you accomplish three things: First: Provide much needed financial support to the next World Champions. Second: Receive coverage in a publication that will be distributed to teams from:
Third: Gain the consumer loyalty of shooters worldwide. Why should you support the Under 21/Under 25 teams? The youth are the lifeblood of our sport; without them we have no future. Given the change in the political environment here in the United States, it is more important than ever that we band together and put out support behind these kids. How can you help?
